Employment Enterprises, Inc. is working with a locally based and locally owned electric distribution system that provides electric services throughout Northern Virginia. We are searching for a Planning Engineer in Gainesville, Virginia. The role involves performing engineering, planning, and operational studies to develop reliable and cost-effective solutions for electrical system design and construction. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team and have the opportunity for hybrid work after an initial on-site period. This is a market rate position, meaning we do not have a set salary and the client is open to a wide range commensurate with experience. Relocation assistance is available for qualifying candidates.
Planning Engineer Responsibilities:
- Perform prudent planning, engineering, operational, and economical studies to support system improvements and new facilities.
- Develop short-term and long-term plans for substations, transmission, and distribution projects.
- Design electrical layouts and interconnections for data centers, large commercial clients, and new subdivisions.
- Conduct system protection studies, coordination, voltage drop, and fault current analyses to optimize electrical system performance.
- Review construction work orders and ensure adherence to policies, guidelines, and specifications.
- Collaborate with management, engineers, developers, and government agencies to coordinate load growth and system enhancements.
- Review outage data, identify outage causes, and develop programs to mitigate outages.
- Ensure accuracy of system maps and GIS data, providing technical support and team leadership as needed.
- Interpret industry standards and regulatory requirements, supporting compliance efforts.
- Follow safety protocols and participate in continued professional development activities.
Planning Engineer Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience in electrical utility or engineering roles.
- NCEES EIT certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred).
- Experience with substation design and electric utility operations (a plus).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in engineering analysis software, GIS, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
