Employment Enterprises, Inc. is working with one of the world’s largest scientific organizations that is a leader in providing academic and career resources, industry news, and scientific publications. We are searching for a Data Visualization Editor to read the creation of data-driven visualizations and interactive stories that illuminate the latest developments in chemistry. As part of this engagement, they will be tasked with creating processes and leading training sessions to increase internal knowledge of data visualization in journalism. This position is onsite in Washington, DC and pays $52-$65 per hour.
Data Visualization Editor Responsibilities:
Collaborate with editorial and creative teams, conceptualize and develop data-driven stories and interactives focused on chemistry research, trends, and scientific breakthroughs.
Create and edit graphics and visuals, including charts, maps, infographics, and interactive data tools.
Collaborate with science writers, editors, and subject-matter experts to ensure accuracy and clarity.
Refine existing data visualizations, looking for ways to improve accuracy and accessibility.
Source, clean, and analyze datasets from scientific journals, databases, and public repositories.
Train staff in data visualization development, best practices for analyzing datasets and developing tools to contribute to the development of a consistent visual style and storytelling approach across the publication.
Ensure accessibility standards are met in all visualizations, including color contrast, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support.
Document repeatable workflows and templates for use in future projects.
Data Visualization Editor Qualifications:
Proficiency in modern web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git).
Strong data analysis skills using tools such as Python, R, SQL, or similar.
Experience with data visualization libraries and platforms, such as Datawrapper, D3.js, Flourish, QGIS
Experience working with or within a CMS or component-based publishing system (experience with Adobe AEM is a plus).
Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, engaging visuals.
Familiarity with accessibility standards for data visualization and digital publishing.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.
