Employment Enterprises, Inc. is currently working with one of the world’s largest scientific organizations that is a leader in providing academic and career resources, industry news, and scientific publications. We are searching for a Publication Marketing Manager to lead strategic journal and product marketing initiatives, foster editorial and stakeholder relationships, conduct market research, and drive global author engagement and submission growth through compelling messaging, campaign execution, and cross-functional collaboration. This position is onsite in Washington, DC and pays $56.37-$69.80 per hour.

Publication Marketing Manager Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement journal, portfolio, and related product marketing strategies to achieve submission growth, increase usage, and ensure author and customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Serve as the editorial liaison, nurturing and developing relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders, including Editors-in-Chief, to gain buy-in and manage expectations.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the Demand Marketing team, developing messaging and copy to inform integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Conduct market research to understand researcher personas, use cases, and competitors, and utilize insights to build effective positioning aligned with author needs.
  • Communicate marketing goals, initiatives, and results internally, cross-divisionally, and with external stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and reports.
  • Assess market trends and monitor competitive activity to inform marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Develop compelling messaging and value propositions supporting special programs such as calls for papers and anniversaries, differentiating journals in the global market.
  • Create editorial enablement tools, including presentations, battlecards, and one-pagers for use at conferences and outreach events.
  • Attend events and conferences to promote publications, products, and services as needed.
  • Represent the marketing team on cross-departmental projects and perform other duties to meet business needs.
  • Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally as required.

Publication Marketing Manager Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience in product or journals marketing, preferably in STM academic publishing.
  • Experience in international marketing within a global organization is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of the mission and values of the organization.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to define and execute marketing opportunities.
  • Proven success in fast-paced team environments with set deadlines and success metrics.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a solutions-focused approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging diverse stakeholders and managing cultural differences.
  • Confident public speaker, comfortable presenting to senior groups, and skilled copywriter.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing channels and tactics.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage marketing budgets, track spend, and report ROI.
  • Eagerness to learn new skills and contribute positively to team efforts.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.
