Our client is a trusted utility and energy provider delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable solutions to homes and businesses. The Senior Regulatory Accountant will execute the processes and controls required to produce materials in support of the company's revenue requirement and cost of service before regulatory commissions and provides accounting guidance on the effect of Commission orders and rules. This is a full-time opportunity based in Washington, DC and is a market rate position, meaning we do not have a set pay range and our client is open to considering candidates commensurate with experience; our anticipated range is $40-$65 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of regulatory accounting and utility ratemaking principles; stay informed of regulatory developments across jurisdictions.
  • Support the company's interests before external audiences, including preparing expert witness testimony and participating in negotiations with external parties.
  • Develop pro forma ratemaking adjustments; prepare reports and schedules for regulatory filings and internal reporting.
  • Maintain understanding of jurisdictional and class allocation methodology; prepare jurisdictional and class cost of service studies.
  • Research and analyze information; advise management on issues related to regulatory accounting and cost of service.
  • Prepare responses to discovery in cases before regulatory commissions and commission-directed reports.
  • Develop revenue requirement forecasts for input into the company's corporate planning process.
  • Analyze financial results and their impact on a regulatory and jurisdictional basis.
  • Maintain written policies and procedures; improve workflow, systems, and processes; adapt processes to changing regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or related field (required).
  • Master's Degree (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting (required).
  • CPA (preferred).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data; identify relevant issues and evaluate multiple scenarios to solve business problems.
  • Ability to build rapport and effective working relationships across stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills to present ideas logically and concisely to diverse audiences, verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in accessing and manipulating data for financial analyses and formal presentations.
  • Project planning and management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Flexibility to work extended days and/or weekends as required to meet regulatory and management deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint); TM1 experience preferred.
