Our client is a local government agency dedicated to providing inclusive, innovative, and high-quality public services to its residents. The Employment Training Specialist will support individuals within the seasoned worker population by providing comprehensive employment and training services, including case management, career coaching, and employer partnership development.
This is a full-time position based in Alexandria, VA, paying $27.00 per hour. This is a contract position.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized case management, career coaching, and job search assistance to participants within the 50+ program.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate work experience, education, transferable skills, and job readiness to determine appropriate employment pathways.
- Support participants in building competitive skill sets through resume development, mock interviewing, networking strategies, LinkedIn optimization, and leveraging AI tools in the job search process.
- Oversee and facilitate Workforce Innovation Network (WIN) Workshops and additional career readiness classes designed to support seasoned workers.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Alexandria Commission on Aging, representing workforce initiatives and strengthening partnerships that support older adults.
- Engage in proactive job development by connecting with local businesses to identify employment opportunities aligned with participant skill sets.
- Plan and support hiring events, job fairs, and community outreach efforts, including tabling and on-site coordination.
- Meet regularly with internal team members and community partners to coordinate services and address participant employment needs.
- Maintain expert knowledge of workforce and community-based resources to effectively guide participants through employment and supportive service systems.
- Record all activities in client files in a timely and accurate manner to meet local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
- Perform related duties, special projects, and other assignments as needed to support Workforce Development Center operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Four-Year College Degree with college-level courses in social science, guidance and vocational counseling, human service delivery systems, or a related field; one year of experience in vocational guidance and counseling; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Preferred: Experience working in workforce development, conducting informal assessments, case management, crisis intervention, policy interpretation, labor market analysis, and working with diverse populations. Experience on grant-funded projects, proficiency with Microsoft Office and database management systems, and developing workforce statistical reports. Certification as a Workforce Development Professional (CWDP) or the ability to earn within 90 days. Multilingual skills are an asset.
