Our client is a local government agency dedicated to providing inclusive, innovative, and high-quality public services to its residents. The Youth Advisor will assist with ensuring efficient and effective program operations by identifying and recruiting qualified youth, implementing program activities, recruiting private and public sector employers for programs, establishing good customer relations with employers, monitoring work site performance, and supporting career readiness initiatives.

This is a full-time position based in Alexandria, VA, paying $21–$23 per hour. This is a contract position.

Responsibilities

  • Determine applicants' eligibility for the Summer Youth Employment Program.
  • Provide recommendations for transition plans and activities that enhance participants’ employability and address barriers to employment.
  • Facilitate Career Readiness and Life Skills workshops for program participants.
  • Conduct program orientation for participants and work site supervisors.
  • Conduct weekly work/training site visits to provide guidance and support.
  • Assist program participants in determining transportation options.
  • Utilize Web Harmony for case management notes and documentation.
  • Maintain participant records related to hours worked, attendance, and wages.
  • Prepare and distribute required program paperwork.
  • Identify programmatic issues and seek solutions from the supervisor.
  • Perform special duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required: Completion of college-level courses in counseling, education, social work, or related field; or one year of experience in human service work involving public contact; or equivalent experience and training.
  • Preferred: BA/BS in Social Science, Business, or Education; at least one year of experience working with economically disadvantaged youth; experience with database management systems supporting case work activities.
  • Technical skills: Knowledge of MS Word and database systems; valid driver’s license issued by the state.
