Our client is one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the scientific community, recognized globally for advancing the hard sciences and publishing leading scientific journals. The Senior Communications Specialist will help drive communication projects and foster community growth and engagement within the field of chemistry.
This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC, paying a range of $35–$38 per hour. It is a full-time, contract position.
Responsibilities
- Implement the social media strategy to engage the scientific community across multiple platforms
- Identify opportunities and test new approaches using data-informed insights
- Manage, prioritize, and execute requests from marketing colleagues aligned with overall strategy
- Support communication projects through planning, content creation, and coordination
- Provide guidance for staff managing social media accounts for journals and sub-brands
- Assist the Lead, Strategic Communications with other duties as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, science, or related field
- Positive, proactive attitude aligned with core values of ambition, integrity, teamwork, and clear communication
- Confident, self-motivated professional with problem-solving skills
- Excellent writer with organized, detail-oriented approach
- Experience managing social media for high-profile organizations, familiar with management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer)
- Basic design skills using tools like Canva
- Preference for familiarity with scientific research community
