Our client is a major transportation agency responsible for connecting communities and supporting mobility across the DC region. The Travel and Expense Accountant will review and process travel-related expenses and trade payable invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies, and supporting accounts payable activities within a large organization.
This is a full-time, contract position based in Alexandria, VA, paying $42.09 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Review, input, and process travel-related and trade payable invoices
- Manage travel-related cash advance requests, ensuring accuracy and adherence to policies
- Support employees on travel booking tools and expense reporting systems
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding policies and report submissions
- Perform expense report audits for compliance
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and use analytics to monitor policy adherence
- Perform reconciliations and research discrepancies in accounts payable records
- Review invoice documentation to assign proper periods of performance
- Collaborate with analytics team to ensure proper categorization of accruals and prevent double counting
- Identify root causes for discrepancies and assist in rectifying vendor master data issues
- Support vendor research and validation efforts
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Experience with large ERP/accounting systems such as PeopleSoft Financials
- Familiarity with Concur or similar travel and expense management software
- Knowledge of corporate card administration and US GAAP standards
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to document accounting policies and procedures effectively
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
