Our client is a local government agency dedicated to providing inclusive, innovative, and high-quality public services to its residents. The Human Services Client Associate will serve as an initial point of contact to assist residents in crisis and/or needing social service interventions, providing crisis intervention, emergency support, resource referral, community outreach, and workshop coordination.
This is a full-time, contract position based in Alexandria, VA, paying $20.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency support services to low-income families, elderly persons, ex-offenders, substance-dependent, and mentally ill individuals.
- Interview clients to assess their needs, evaluate client success, and determine eligibility for social assistance programs.
- Process changes and interim applications for medical, food assistance, and insurance programs.
- Refer clients to appropriate community resources and monitor access.
- Develop and coordinate community workshops promoting independence and self-sufficiency, including creating flyers and facilitating sessions.
- Arrange for needed items such as food, shelter, and prescriptions from community resources.
- Stay informed about program eligibility criteria and new services.
- Serve as liaison with multicultural and multilingual families, providing interpretation and translated materials.
- Update public communication boards and digital messaging.
- Lead special projects, prepare reports, and participate in community meetings and events.
- Maintain a directory of local resources and assist in developing outreach strategies.
- Assist in the preparation of administrative reports and documentation.
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Some experience in counseling, crisis intervention, community outreach, or employment counseling.
- Two-year college degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- At least two years of work experience using Virginia state systems.
- Knowledge of community agencies, social services, and public assistance programs.
- Good interviewing and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to interpret eligibility regulations and plan work effectively.
- Proficiency in Spanish/English or Amharic/English preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong computer skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
