Our client is a local government agency dedicated to providing inclusive, innovative, and high-quality public services to its residents. The Fiscal Officer I will perform analytical and evaluative work involving the formulation of budget estimates, development of fund requirements to support operating programs, and execution of approved budgets by city officials and contractors. This is a full-time contract position located in Alexandria, VA, paying $26.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical work involving the formulation of budget estimates, including development of fund requirements to support operating programs, and the execution of approved budgets by city officials and/or contractors
  • Coordinate reimbursement activities for early childhood programs and provide program controls over the obligation and expenditure of funds or plans
  • Gather and analyze grant information and data for division grant applications and reports
  • Collaborate with program directors to gather financial information for budgets, grant applications, and other financial projects
  • Perform complex accounting activities, applying federal, state, and local policies and procedures
  • Monitor division reimbursement systems, including billing and collection of client, third-party payer, and contractor payments
  • Review and verify expenditure and revenue reports, prepare monthly analyses, and resolve financial issues
  • Ensure all program transactions are properly coded, approved, signed, and documented
  • Monitor the fiscal condition of early childhood programs
  • Assist grant managers with grant close-out activities
  • Respond to inquiries regarding payment status and resolve vendor issues
  • Prepare monthly budget reports and monitor expenditures and revenues
  • Enter new vendors, process invoices, and maintain financial records
  • Provide technical guidance on financial matters to staff
  • Support audit processes with documentation and schedules
  • Perform related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree and coursework in accounting, budgeting, procurement, contracting, or related fields
  • One year of experience in public administration, financial planning, and administration
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, government operations, and financial management
  • Experience with spreadsheets and financial software applications
  • Strong communication and independent decision-making skills
