Our client is a trusted utility and energy provider delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable solutions to homes and businesses. The Senior Safety Advisor serves as a key leader responsible for advancing safety, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and operational resilience programs within the energy and utility industry.

This is a full-time, contract position based in Springfield, VA, paying $50.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Represent our client during inspections, audits, investigations, and incident response activities with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with emergency management organizations, public safety stakeholders, and industry partners.
  • Lead compliance activities under federal pipeline safety regulations, including outreach, training, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Analyze safety and compliance data to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support investigations of pipeline incidents, near misses, and operational events, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Interpret and apply applicable federal and state regulations, industry standards, and company policies to ensure safe operations.
  • Support regulatory inspections, reporting, and response activities, maintaining thorough documentation.
  • Monitor industry developments, safety advisories, and enforcement actions to proactively address potential impacts.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness activities, drills, exercises, and incident management.
  • Participate in Emergency Operations Center activations and incident response efforts.
  • Support coordination with emergency management partners across jurisdictions.
  • Maintain emergency response resources, contact databases, and readiness documentation.
  • Facilitate lessons-learned reviews post-incident or exercise.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance safety culture, compliance, and emergency response programs.
  • Assist with training delivery related to pipeline safety and emergency management.
  • Support special projects involving safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, Emergency Management, Environmental Science, Compliance, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in pipeline safety, regulatory compliance, emergency management, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of federal pipeline safety regulations (49 CFR Parts 191 and 192).
  • Familiarity with NIMS, ICS, EOC operations, and emergency preparedness principles.
  • Experience facilitating exercises, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with regulators, emergency responders, and internal teams.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and compliance tracking systems.
