Our client is a local government agency dedicated to providing inclusive, innovative, and high-quality public services to its residents. The Human Services Client Associate will support crisis intervention, case management, and community outreach efforts within the Department of Community and Human Services.
This is a full-time, contract position in Alexandria, VA, paying $20.00 per hour.
The role involves providing crisis support to low-income families, conducting client interviews, determining eligibility for assistance programs, and coordinating community workshops and outreach activities. The incumbent will also serve as a liaison with multicultural and multilingual families, develop community resources, and assist in project planning and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency support services to vulnerable populations, including low-income families, elderly persons, ex-offenders, and individuals with mental health or substance abuse issues.
- Interview clients, assess needs, and determine eligibility for medical, food assistance, and other social services programs.
- Process changes and renewals for assistance programs while ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Refer clients to appropriate community resources, monitor case progress, and support client self-sufficiency workshops.
- Assist with community outreach efforts, including creating informational flyers, coordinating workshops, and attending civic and community meetings.
- Maintain updated directories of local resources and serve as a liaison with multicultural families through interpretation and translation.
- Lead special projects, develop reports, and participate in community and agency committees.
- Perform administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence and reports related to client activities.
Qualifications
- Some experience counseling individuals with diverse social, economic, and behavioral needs, including crisis intervention and community outreach.
- Minimum two-year college degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- At least two years of using Virginia state systems or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of social services, benefit programs, and community resources.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with fluency in Spanish/English or Amharic/English preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Proficient computer skills, with the ability to interpret laws, regulations, and eligibility criteria.
