Our client is a major transportation agency responsible for connecting communities and supporting mobility across the DC region. The Accountant (Financial Analyst, Financial Reporting) will support year-end financial reporting and audit readiness by reviewing AP activity, identifying unrecorded liabilities, and contributing to the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). This is a onsite position based in Alexandria, VA, paying $42.09 per hour. This is a Full-time, Contract position.
Responsibilities
- Support year-end financial reporting activities tied to the ACFR preparation and audit support
- Review AP voucher and expense reports after fiscal year-end to identify invoices related to the prior fiscal year
- Determine, document, and track invoice periods of performance; update analyses and supporting schedules as needed
- Identify unrecorded liabilities by comparing invoices received after AP close to previously recorded accruals
- Accurately calculate and pro-rate current period expenses for invoices spanning fiscal years
- Prepare and analyze financial reports (e.g., balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements)
- Compile audit support / PBC documentation, including research of historical transactions and organization of support for review
- Build and maintain ACFR tie-out documentation and collaborate on statement accuracy and revisions
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for approval
- Prepare audit schedules and notes to the financial statements
- Perform General Ledger account reconciliations
- Monitor and process inquiries through designated email inboxes
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by Financial Reporting leadership
Qualifications
Required
- Experience with accrual accounting and expense accrual procedures
- Experience processing accruals within large organizations
- Experience with accounts payable processes and invoice review
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with governmental accounting standards (including interpreting and applying GASB guidance)
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reconciliations
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to document findings and communicate effectively with team members
Preferred
- Experience with PeopleSoft Financials
- Broader accounting experience across multiple functional areas
- Prior experience supporting year-end close and financial statement preparation in a complex environment
Technical skills or certifications
- Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, large data sets, and reconciliation analysis)
- Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- PeopleSoft Financials (preferred)
