Our client is a local government entity committed to delivering essential public services and fostering community development. The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor will provide breastfeeding support and education to pregnant and postpartum women, helping mothers meet their breastfeeding goals and promoting community health. This is a part time contract position, onsite, based in Arlington, VA, paying $22.50 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Provide breastfeeding counseling and support to WIC participants through various communication channels, including telephone and hospital visits.
- Attend USDA breastfeeding peer counselor training and complete required coursework.
- Counsel pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women in assigned WIC clinic(s).
- Maintain accurate records of all contacts with participants.
- Refer mothers to appropriate WIC and community resources.
- Attend prenatal classes, breastfeeding support groups, and relevant conferences.
- Promote breastfeeding through special projects and outreach efforts.
Required qualification:
- Has breastfed at least one baby.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enthusiastic about breastfeeding and helping other mothers.
- Ability to work at least 16-20 hours per week.
- Basic computer skills (email, word processing, internet).
Preferred qualification:
- Previous experience in breastfeeding support or counseling.
- Familiarity with WIC programs or public health initiatives.
Technical skills or certifications
- Completion of USDA breastfeeding peer counselor training.
- Ability to read and understand breastfeeding educational materials.
