Our client is a trusted utility and energy provider delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable solutions to homes and businesses. The Customer Service Representative will resolve billing questions and service requests while improving customer satisfaction through accurate, policy-aligned account support. This is a full time contract position, onsite, based in Washington, DC, with a pay range of $20.00–$24.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Respond to customer inquiries related to billing disputes, service requests, deposits, and general account questions via phone and email
- Review customer account information and determine appropriate next steps in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Resolve escalated customer issues by documenting actions taken and coordinating follow-up as needed
- Maintain accurate customer records and supporting documentation (e.g., proof of residency or identity documents)
- Initiate and process account updates, adjustments, and service-related requests in the billing/customer information system
- Support identity verification and fraud alert review by documenting findings and escalating concerns appropriately
- Process customer payments and complete payment documentation in alignment with internal controls
- Prepare routine transaction and reconciliation documentation and assist with reporting needs
- Collaborate with internal partners to support service, collections, and customer account resolution efforts
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 2+ years of customer service experience supporting billing, account inquiries, or service-related requests
- Ability to analyze account details, apply policy consistently, and make timely decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, customer-focused approach
- Experience documenting customer interactions and maintaining accurate records
- Preferred: Experience working with a customer information or billing platform (e.g., SAP)
- Preferred: Cash handling, payment processing, or reconciliation experience
- Proficiency with common business tools such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
